| One of the few Fleet ("Gato")
class submarines remaining for public view, the USS
Cobia (SS-245), sits today on Lake Michigan in Manitowoc,
Wisconsin, as a National Historic Landmark,
a tribute to the men of the "Silent Service" and the workers who built
the subs, which were so instrumental in defeating the Japanese Imperial
Navy and the German Reich in the Second World War.
